The dogs indulge him. He goes after my boy labradoodle the most and he just gets up and moves. I've been blessed with dogs that know how to behave with the birds. I still have his stump wrapped and its wet and nasty here so hes still inside.
Bose is doing great he can really use stump well. You wouldn't think a one footed duck could stalk dogs in a living room but thats his new favorite pass time.... and I got my first black egg today!!!!!
Thanks guys!! He can almost walk normally! Going to keep him locked up for a couple days so he doesn't agitate it but he can use the stump to move pretty well!!!
All wrapped up! Hubby showed up and helped. I'm shaking but he's all taken care of. At least he'll be able to start learning how to get around. Luckily he has a pretty good bit of leg left to work with.
Okay I can do that. Last question. Should I leave him in house for a while yet? Untill its all healed up? I have I diaper ordered for him so he can be inside easier and my hubby and dogs are good with him so he can stay. Or after a week or two do I let him back out to start interacting with...
Hey his foot just fell off. I'm home alone so I'm having a hard time getting a good look at it. Not much blood. He's intub right now I'm going to clean out pen, clean the stump and try to wrap it. Does that all sound right? Anything else @BantyChooks ?
That would be nice. I love his back. Really need to pick a name for him. He really did get out so I could clean pen lol. I worked all day/night yesterday and only had time for fresh straw on top. I normally change it every day. As soon as I had it set back up he went back in lol.
Yep niacin. Normally a duck gets it from the food it eats while outside. I believe from bugs and grass and stuff. If they don't get it it can cause leg issues. You have to add it to ducklings food when in a brooder. They'll get weak legs. So far adding brewers yeast to their diet has...
I'm not sure about it being bad for there legs. I believe its bad in general because it fills them up but doesn't have any of the good stuff they need. Like us filling up on dinner rolls instead of eating our side salad.
They come back to the coop at dark and I lock them in but the snow took out some of the netting on the top of my run and most fly out in the am. Chatty and Kathy my Pekings stay in till I let them out. I swear they dont want to let their feet hit the snow.
Well on a better note the rest of my non Muscovy flock is doing well. The snowy mallard and east Indies I tried so hard to get last year are looking great. The KC mixes I hatched after mom ditched them are beautiful. Non of them want to get out of tge creek so they've been getting their...
Yep I've been putting Epson salt in the baths. I also do a coconut oil/shea butter/essential oils.... concoction that is a natural antibacterial coating that I can melt and brush on. I made it with less beeswax for the duck then I use for my single combed roosters so its more like Vaseline...
His whole leg was swollen not just the foot I should say and I moved him up to the porch with hay always underfoot once I noticed the swelling so he wasn't out in snow or elements. Weather has been rough here but I always put down fresh straw for them to stand/sleep on.
