In the Brooder
Hi all
I started my chicken obsession with a Black Ameraucana rooster this past winter. We got him 2 hens, which I later found out we're Easter Eggers, not Ameraucanas. I learned that the Ameraucanas have blue slate legs, the Easter Egger we have has orange and black feathers and has yellow legs. For fun this spring we made our own styrofoam cooler incubator and hatched some eggs from our Easter Egger and 1 egg from our Leghorn hen.
Our chicks are now about 10 weeks old, they are pure black with blue slate legs, my question is, if you were a novice, how would you tell that these are not pure breed Ameraucanas?
The Leghorn chick has yellow legs with white feathers (and a few splash feathers).
