Help!! What is this?

Hi There,
I hope you don't mind me replying. I just joined BYC and I have only had chickens for 6 weeks.

Now, I don't know if many breeds look alike...
But your little one looks just like my LegBar rooster. I was told that the LegBars can be sexed by the blonde spot on their head.

this is my rooster at 1week old. The others are hens.

Thank you for you're help! I'm going to have to look this breed up. I'm not a fan thus far. Has anyone had good luck with them? Will he grow out of this? This site is just great. I appreciate the help.

Your Welcome!

I raise Cream Legbars and have never had a problem with males this young. As they get a little older some can get quite mean. Though others can be very good with people their hens and even chicks. This is a great breed but just like with most other breeds you can get a nice male or a mean one, time will tell. I wouldn't assume because he is a little mean to the others at these young age that he will be a mean adult. Some chicks are just a little mean, they are learning and finding their place. He miay just end up top of the pecking order. Give it time.

Also if you would like to learn more or to ask more questions or post pics you are welcome to join us on the Cream Legbar threads. Great friendly people with tons of info and advise for this breed.

I only have LegBars. The breeder I went to had hens and roosters and they were very friendly. The breeder (and her young children) handle them often.
My first batch I handled often. They are (7 weeks old) friendly and seem very smart. They even come when called and will let me pick them up.

The second batch, 3-4 weeks old now, came when i didn't have as much time to handle them.
They are starting to come when called and my rooster does not seem to be aggressive...yet.

They all put themselves to bed at night in the temporary dog crates with perches.
The crates are completely covered with hardware cloth.

Not having a different breed to compare them to, but so far my LegBars have been good chickens!
