Anyone ever owned a Huskita? (Husky / Akita mix) or any Akita mix?

Dogs are awesome, but there are some important things to know about huskies and akitas:

Huskies are the kind of dogs that need daily walks that are at least 20 minutes or else they will bark and pace and may show aggression. They are very energetic and needs lots of exercise to be happy and healthy.

Akitas also need exercise. They are a very dominant breed and are known to be aggressive, so not very good around children.

Hm, I have never heard of an aggressive husky, but everyone I know with them lets them run around all day. They can be nippy/mouthy if not trained well but that's play behavior not true aggression.

Akitas are in temperament, the exact opposite. Huskies are crazy and excited and hyper-happy, but akitas are serious, and sometimes grumpy. Huskies love to be with people, but akitas like space, peace and quiet. They are like protective cats.

I have never heard of huskitas... it is certainly an interesting cross.
 
I have met aggressive huskies, and they do best in cold climates, pulling a sled twenty or more miles per day! If under exercised, they dig, howl, and generally are difficult to live with. They need very good fencing, and will roam five miles in any direction, and like to kill small animals. Definitely not couch potatoes. Akitas are big strong guard dogs, and will have a very short list of people that they will get along with and respect. Not ever meant to get along with children or their friends, and dog aggressive. The thought of a cross between these breeds is pretty scarey; combine these traits and who knows what you'll get, but probably hard to live with. Good breeders wouldn't do this, so you will be dealing with bad breeders, and most likely bad bloodstock. Mary
 
What causes huskies to be aggressive? They're very popular in my area and I have owned them before myself, but have never met an aggressive one. I rank them right up there with labs and goldens in terms of family-friendliness. They're not real protective dogs and they're not territorial either. They just love everyone they meet, especially dogs and children. I wonder what would provoke one to attack? Maybe the aggressive ones are kept in hot climates and that makes them irritable?

I agree, huskies aren't often aggressive if raised right. However, any dog can be aggressive if not taught how to behave.
 
Maybe they're too active for most people. I live in the country so people have dogs both outdoors and in. In the city I think a husky would lose its mind and probably become bitey out of boredom.
 
Thanks for the replies. I guess I'm more after the Akita side of things to see if one would be suited to live life with us. And I was leaning more toward a mix thinking you'd get a more toned down Akita? I do have a Husky / Groenendael mix who is a joy to have, recall is perfect and she is very good with my poultry... It didn't happen over night though and I had to be very consistent from day one when I got her at 8 weeks old. We go jogging daily and I never have her on the lead (but I do take one with me just in case) I've always loved Akitas and thought one day I'd like to share my life with one. Attached is Laska my Husky mix....
