Hello!
I figured this was a great place to join seeing as I'm getting back into having chickens again.
I actually joined so I could ask a question concerning one of my pullets that was killed yesterday, as the crime scene was quite strange. But that's for another post, I figure there's always lots of great info on here.
I'm fairly new to chickens, about five or six years ago (maybe seven? i dunno) I had ten chickens, nine hens and one roo who was quite the character (we called him Hank, Head of Ranch Security). One of the hens was trained to jump up onto my arm, which was a fun little trick. Sadly they all were killed when our neighbors accidentally left the coop door open one night while we were away.
So I'm starting anew! Minus my poor speckled sussex who died yesterday, I have six hens - one other sussex, two black australorps, two RIRs, and one americauna. The seventh member is a gorgeous americauna roo that I was convinced wasn't a roo (or maybe it was denial) until he became my alarm clock at seven thirty on the dot every day. But he's the nicest chicken I have. Go figure.
I love my dumb birds, and I'm happy to be here.
Cheers,
hoss
