I have an Americana hen- 1 and 1/2 years old who lays about every other day. Her shells are incredibly weak and most of the time do not hold the egg. She has good feed, oyster shell, healthy goodies. Any ideas how to improve the quality/strength of her shell or is she just a dud producer?

The quality of egg is partially environment and part genetic. You can't really fix genetic. If the rest are laying good eggs, it is probably genetic.

I have one too, beautiful blue shell, a pretty sky blue color, but very thin, often times there is a hole in the egg shell, like it didn't completely form.
