soft shell eggs

No... the ducks would play in the water behind the coop as I was spraying the coop out and made a huge mess that's why I spread all that wheat straw around to keep them out of it. The only water in the chicken coop is in their watering container and when I sprayed it out.

As for the wood shavings I am having a flea issue this year. I had cedar chips in my dog house it was infested with fleas real bad. Now we have a flea problem cant seem to get rid of them, I surely don't want fleas in the coop too so thanks for the suggestion but I will pass on that, but if you have any ideas on how to get rid of the fleas I will try anything

I switched from pine shavings to a mix of Sweet PDZ Horse Stall Refresher (Available at Tractor Supply) and sand in my coop and the odor has gone down tremendously. I scoop the poop each morning with a kitty litter scooper. I am in humid South Carolina.

I water the bottom of my coop down every morning, the underneath that is, and it's sand so it drains nicely, and I do it because it's hot! Today was 105, the sand dries quickly and the girls lay in it to cool off. It seems to help
It's been really hot where I'm at too! Mine love it when I water the grass next to their run and the sprinkler gets the grass/dirt where they can reach

they literally run through the sprinkler to cool off, and love to scratch in the mud in hopes of worms.

Oh, and diotomacious (sp?) will kill fleas. Make sure it's food grade and just sprinkle it liberally wherever the fleas are. In the doghouse, bedding, dirt. Anywhere. It's a very fine powder, so be careful about being to vigorous with it :) it's not good to breathe. But it's safe for chickens, dogs, cats. I bought mine at tractor supply, and it's pretty inexpensive too. I noticed it helped with the flies hanging in the coop too, bonus!
Make sure too, that the dog isn't still harboring fleas, the egg cycles are a buggar. Just when you think you've got them under control, bam! another generation hatch that you didn't know about. Advantix will kill the eggs and break the cycle. That's the easiest way. You can do flea and tick baths too, but they have to be really regular (like every other week) to get the eggs too. I'm a dog groomer and I feel for you! Fleas suck!!

Yeah I totally agree fleas suck!
So I've been doing some research about that diatomacious earth and it states that it isn't good for the respiratory system but is premetherin ok to use and will it get rid of mites because I saw some on the eggs today in the nest box
