  • He/she is a Columbian Rock about 16 weeks old.
  • Is a loof to the flock, especially when eating.
  • Grooms the tail feathers of the other hens when roosting.
  • Comes up to the house to get me when they are out of food or water (I have a water/feeder in the chicken run as well).
  • Follows me, leads me or runs next to me when wanting food/water.
  • Came to get me when the flock couldn't get in the coop at dusk.
  • Let's me pick him/her up about 75% of the time.
  • Don't hear any crowing even at 5am coming from the coop.
  • I have 2 Barred Plymouth Rocks: one is the "hen in charge" and the largest, the other is just plain mean. When they puff out or try to chase him away he just flies over them and lands on the other side of them, then ignores them.

He has male saddle feathers. I'm pretty sure it's a cockerel. Also, not a pure Columbian Rock with that brown, his neck feathers look more like a Delware (columbian plus barring). Definitely a mixed breed.

What do you do if you want to keep the rooster and also want to eat your hen's eggs? Make him a bachelor pad and keep him separate?
