Orphan duck

JadeComputerGal, I had mentally composed my response before looking again at the feet. And again. And again. I don't know about you, but I often am so occupied with thinking about the concern that the species can actually seem secondary...

@Sidhe13 - there is an Emergencies forum, as well as a chicken forum where there are folks with much more experience than I have - and there are some very helpful folks.

Also, remember to subscribe to the thread you post on - so you'll get notification of responses.

I am not a chick person - aside from just getting all silly when I see or hear them :love

But here are my first thoughts - what is the heat source, and can this wee one get too close?

Can the little stick her or his head through a gap, such as chicken wire?

Can chicks get skin irritation from bedding?

I would also look for parasites, but it could be heat, allergy, other chick lets, or nutritional needs.

The heat source is a wheat pack under 2 towels. The bedding is just towels. The brooder is a wooden box so no chicken wire gaps except a area of the floor has small mesh where the water is so the duck can splash as much as he wants.

The chick has primaries emerging on his wings. They both eat and drink fine and are active and bright.
