Preparation for first eggs

When our girls first started laying they wouldn't use the nests with the fakes, so we took them out, so obviously fakes aren't necessary. The first few eggs were layed from the roost but in no time they were laying in the nest boxes. Just make the boxes easy to access and cozy.

We use timothy hay to line the boxes but many use other things. I bought a bag of hay used for rabbits and guinea pigs, it's cut into a nice size that fits in the boxes perfectly.
