I have a pair of Ringneck doves who have just reared their first two babies. What is strange is that the male seems very close, wanting to play with and still feeding the oldest of the two. With the younger one he is mean and doesnt play with it. The youngest seeks refuge with it mama who is on the nest with two eggs already and about to hatch any day. The mom is not mean to either of the two juveniles. It is strange to me that the male is playing favorites and my heart hurts for the young one who shakes it wings begging for some of the crop milk he is feeding the older one.
Any thoughts fellow dove owners? Im kind of thinking it might be a gender issue. Do you think the one he is playing with is a male and the other a female such that he is chasing it off to its mother for training?
