How much power can this handle?

When my wife and I bought our house this spring, the previous owner left wire in the pole barn so that we could run power out to the shed. I don't know what gauge it is, or how much power it can handle. I'd like to put 100 amp service out there, or maybe even more if possible. Can this wire handle it? What gauge is it, and what is the maximum I can run with it? This will be used to partially power my coop this winter for a light and water dish heater. Thanks!!

It appears to be 2 gauge aluminum based on the insulation printing... How much it can handle is dependent upon distance, no more than about 75-100A... Realistically for any distance 50+ feet round trip (aka 25 feet each run) you are best sticking to 50-60A... Also it's not clear if it's direct burial or overhead rated wire...

Check local building codes and confirm wire type and gauge... Or better yet consult a licensed electrician in your area...

Looks like underground number 2 wire, rated to 100amp, aluminum wire. If you use this, be very careful about splicing to copper wire - No-Nox is recommended for putting on aluminum connections. Copper and aluminum don't play well together. I second the others - if you can, hire an electrician.

I have consulted with a master electrician. He's confirmed what most of you have said. This is 2 gauge under ground aluminum wire capable of 100 amps. Thanks everyone! Can't wait to do this project!
