Well, today was the day! We moved the babies into the big coop and relocated the leghorns to the baby coop. It went relatively smoothly. Relatively......Out of 9 young ones only one gave me problems about being caught. A Buff who apparently was very attached to her little coop! But I finally caught her, just a few lost tail feathers for her and alot of scratches on my arms. Once everyone was in their new coop assignments I had the enjoyable task of chicken sitting for a couple of hours. I sat outside of the big coop run and surfed facebook on my phone and fed the girls mealworms and scratch. Finally dawned on me to go get my good camera ( aka: the Nikon) and try to get some good pictures!

Everyone seemed to settle in pretty good. Gertrude of course did her duty and chased everyone around the run a couple of times. Lala was the last Red Comet on the nest so she apparently taught a class for the Brahma and two Buffs on how to lay an egg, what the egg song sounds like and the proper way to exit the coop via the ramp. Gertrude and Broody Mama taught the class on how to use the water nipple system. There was one instance when Gertrude was chasing the Brahma around and apparently Brahma was tired of being chased and she just turned around on Gertrude, who suddenly realized CRAP Brahma is alot bigger than me...think I'll go chase the Silver Wyandottes....

It was funny to watch how the new girls developed a buddy system to distract Gertrude. The Cuckoo Marans headed to one corner, the Silver Wyandottes headed to another, and the Easter Eggers kept flying from the steps to the ramp to get away! Poor Gertrude was wore out! She should sleep good tonight on top of the roost ladder!
My hubby just went to check on everybody and make sure they were in the coop and not sleeping on the ground outside in the run! Success! They weren't all on the ladder roosts ,there is still some pecking order going on but at least they were in the coop!
I took over 200 pictures! Just finished "culling" out the bad ones

got it down to fifty...Here's the best out of the bunch!

Brahma and the Buffs watching Lala lay an egg.

Gertrude(right) and Broody Mama (left) showing proper drinking technique.

Evacuation! Lala started singing the egg song (she's loud and little off key) so the girls decided it was time to leave!

Easter Egger , still working on a name for her.

Easter Egger, named Raven.

Their favorite hiding place is under the ramp, a Silver Wyandotte got nosy and jumped up on the ramp.

Love, love love our Brahma! She should be laying in the next couple of weeks! Can't wait!
