Please help me identify what kind of hen decided to live in my backyard! The wind is blowing her feathers in this pucture, it's a beauty shot. (She is molting.)

I've fallen in love with her and look forward to watching her run to me when I go out.

I'm learning how to care for her, but I have a lot of questions! She acts like she has mites and I don't see her taking many dirt baths.

I don't know where she sleeps, and I haven't found any hidden eggs.

I don't know how old she is. Can someone help me??

glad you have joined us.

Sorry, can't help with ID, but she is a cutie. You could try posting under "what breed, gender" forum.

You should visit the learning center articles and coop/run forums.

I would worry about her safety and think you have to try to place her in a protective environment or very soon she will likely be someone's meal.

What she needs right now is some kind of protected environment for spending the night. Birds don't like to move in the dark, so outside she will be a sitting duck for predators looking for a meal. Maybe an unused dog house or something for her and a secure fenced area with top for daytime excursions.. Will she come close to you if you throw her treats? If you can find where she sleeps, you can catch her. If she sleeps in trees or on a roof etc., she will fall victim to owls, or raccoons.

Thank you all for your good advice. As for her identification, I figured she must be a 'mutt.' But I will have to look up gamebirds. From what I remember, gamebirds stay skinny and are not good layers? I was hoping she was an Easter Egger because of the color of her legs. Is it possible she may still lay colored eggs?
