Hi all,

I'm just new to this site in the hope that someone may shed light on what's happening to my little Bantum 'Tiny' or if infact you have experienced a similar thing.

She is quite a noisy girl but every now and then she is particularily noisy and sounds like she is in pain. During this time she will run in her nesting box or the coup and back out again, she quietens down then starts this process again. She really is very noisy and I am worried that neighbours are going to start to complain.

I was worried about her being egg bound but I have taken her to the vet and she is healthy. She has stopped laying eggs though and I fear may be going broody again.

Is there anything you can do to help chickens lay eggs if they have stopped laying?

Any info / ideas would be appreciated.

Vanessa.

are you sure she is not singing the egg song? that is a little strange. If she is going broody than she will be sitting in the nesting box non- stop every day, only getting off one or twice a day. if it is stress coming form anywhere then stopping the stress will eventually start her laying again, how old is she? if she is 2 years or older than she might just be slowing down.

Hi there, thank you for responding. I don't think its the song as she is not laying. Sorry yes when she goes broody she doesn't make this noise. She will sit on those eggs day and night! When I popped in the coop this morning I saw her laying on some eggs and she was shuffling them under her tummy ) So I'm guessing that she's about to go broody. She did, however, come back out of the coup off the nest and started making the same noises running around in and out of the coup. It's pretty strange! She just sounds like she is in pain. The vet checked her over this morning and said she is healthy. I've been given some vitamins for her. He said short of doing an x-ray he can't see anything is wrong. I'm puzzled.

rather wierd, is she your only hen? i have some hens that will sing the egg song for the other hens, the one that laid would be silent and the others would set up a real racket!
i don't know, maybe that is connected? really puzzling.

At first I thought it kind of sounded like the "egg song" too, but sounds like it is not, unless she is singing for the others. Any chance she is getting ready to molt? That might account for her not laying.

Thanks all. I have 10 chickens and 2 ducks so she could be singing for the others but I don't get that feeling. Its really odd. Funnily enough, today, she is a little quieter!!!!! I will get a video of her and post it up. Could be moulting but again I'm not seeing any signs of it.
