Hello all! My name is Samantha and I am the driving force behind Milo & Me. It was named after a children's book I wrote about my then french lop pair, Milo & Mailey.
We do not have chickens (YET) but we hope to add them this coming spring. We got goats instead this year ... But that will put us as Rabbits, Goats and then Chickens which we plan on adding a couple ducks into the mix as well. I am also pulling for Geese but my husband says no so we will see what happens.

I had chickens (layers) and two geese growing up and my husband had chickens (layers) and ducks growing up so we both have experience but it was a while back even though we are not actually that old

So here are some photos of our family at the moment to get the post started for when we DO get the little cluckers.

What a lovely family! Stella is so pretty, and so is Rumley. A St. Pyrenees has to be a big dog! You're goats and rabbits seem so sweet and calm. I'm sure the chickens will fit right in. What kind would you like to get?

Awe thank you We do love them all dearly lol. Rumely will be a year old on the 21st of this month. He has grown so rapidly at times that he will develop growing pains according to the vet... That scares us a bit but he recovers. This time has been especially bad with the limping in two legs but he just shot up about 3 or more inches in what seems like a day... He is well on his way to 200#s according to the vet and has all siblings beat by 20#s or more. We are a little concerned with how the dogs will do with chickens but I have no doubts that we can train them to be with the chickens like they are with the rabbits.

I really like the Isa Browns, I had one that was my favorite one when I had them before. My husband really likes the Easter Egger Americanna as he had one of them. Other than that, we want layers for eggs so I was thinking some of each. I loved the RIR, Buffs, and a couple others... We will see what are available but hopefully we will get a dozen or so to start with. Maybe 20 but no more than that. I also would like to get a few Cornish cross for personal consumption. Would they "Have" to be kept separate from the layers or could I keep a ffew with them?

Wow, 200 pounds! He'll be twice the size of my Great Pyr. If he's nearly a year old he should be finished growing by April.
I'm sure they'll do fine with your chickens since they are with your other pets. My dogs are great with my goats and chickens, but look at my rabbit like they want to eat her sometimes. Are your rabbits good with your other pets? Mine is aggressive towards other animals. The cats that try to catch her get chased away with mouthfuls of fur missing. She has chased my goats too. Don't have to worry about her taking up for herself!
ISA Browns would be a great choice for egg laying, and the ones we had were so sweet. Wyandotte's would be a good choice, and they're also calm. My Easter Eggers go through phases where they'll lay every day for a week, and then not lay for a week. I'm not familiar with meat chickens, but I don't see why you couldn't put them together unless they're aggressive. Dual purpose birds are kept with other chickens, but maybe someone else will know for sure.

Thanks! And yes, he is a big boy. Haven't weighed him since almost 10 months old and he was 114#s then. He has grown a ton since. He is much bigger than our Great Pyr was at a year old.

Thank you for the advice. We won't be too concerned with getting eggs every week from all of them since it is only us two but more so for the fun of it all.

I enjoy drawing and spending time with the animals. I will do portraits for people off and on when there is time to do so.

I'm sure you'll be happy with whatever you decide. I have yet to find a breed of chicken I don't like. They all have their perks.

Those are beautiful. Do you just draw for fun or do you like to sell them?

Awe thank you I do draw for fun but I sell them as well. I do mostly Personalized ones but have sold a couple pre made ones in the past.

Tuesday caught me feeling under the weather so I thought it would be a good time to do some laundry with my helper Livy.

ALMOST perfect.... I managed to capture 5 of the 6 on our walk... Tilda was directly beside me nudging me wanting pets so she did not make the photo...

It looked like a pretty day to go for a walk. I'm scared to take my goats for a walk because they're spooky. If a cat runs by, or a dog barks then they take off. So, it worries me that they would get spooked and maybe lost in the woods. I never leave the yard with them :/ Still, I hope we get some pretty weather like that soon. It must be beautiful there with all the fall colors.
