Can't say I can relate to that, I have added several mature hens to my flock, it takes time for them to fully integrate and they keep their distance for awhile, but I have not had any real issues... I just slip them in at night, and come morning the other birds are certainly curious about the new arrival but not overly aggressive or anything... Within a month or so they are generally fully integrated...
I believe a big part of it the fact my coop is so large that the birds all have plenty of their own space... I keep standard sized chickens, bantam chickens, guinea fowl and peafowl all in the same coop and they all get along pretty well...
