I bred my Muscovies, and when the ducklings were still small I sold some. For some reason, my group grew faster and have larger caruncles, but feathered out way slower. I have some males and females, as did they. Swapped one of my girls for one of her boys, and it's fully feathered while mine are still growing flight feathers.
Mine eat fermented feed twice a day, hers get constant duck grower. Mine won't go in at night and sleep in a hardware cloth fortress of a run, whereas hers will sleep in their duck house.

okay the where they are sleeping thing only goes with the environment they grew up in, hers are probably just better with the habit of going up. as for growing it matters about the amount of nutrients how much nutrients ( which u probably know ) and the amount of space they have to grow, ducks that have more area around them will grow larger than those in a smaller area.

anyway it sounds very interesting.

My boys do have the entire yard to roam, but it doesn't explain why their feathers come in slower. The group gets all they can eat in the morning, and then all they can eat in the evening, with the day spent foraging.
heres some pics to get the idea. They were the same age then; everyone's a little older now and the difference is less pronounced, but still there.

one of my males

Hers, darker one is the boy that came back here, lighter one is the girl.

Keep in mind the size is roughly the same, mine were slightly bigger.
