One of my pullets just squatted! I was a bit confused at first because I had never seen a chicken squat before (and since I was walking towards her, I thought she was afraid of being stepped on) but after a moment I realized what she was doing. She is my only hen to have matured to this point; my other chickens still have small wattles and combs, but hopefully this means they will be following close behind. I can't wait until she lays! I am going to see if I can continue to update this thread as each pullet grows. (also if anyone has any information, tips etc for caring for my hens it would be much appreciated!)

Congradulations!!!! It's alway soo exiting when they first do that!!
I have a few 5 month old pullets that should be laying soon, I hope they squat too soon!

It's been a while but I thought I would update! The hen from before laid two eggs before stopping for a bit, which I assumed was because winter is almost here, but now there are more eggs so I am not sure if she actually stopped or just hid them somewhere else :p The latter is completely possible, since all of them like to visit my neighbor's chickens, but the rest of my girls have bigger and redder combs and wattles so they might be laying or are about to start. Since the second "wave" of eggs I have gotten two eggs, and neither of them seem to have any significant flaws. I am hoping to catch one of them squatting to confirm that more of them are about to lay, I'll post pictures if I can!

Also, do chickens continue to squat after they begin laying, or do they stop?
