Help!! New old english bantams.

I hope this is the right place to post this. Yesterday I bought 5 old English bantams about 5 months old. They stayed on the pen with the other chickens all evening and all night. This morning I let all the chickens out to free range and left all 5 bantams in the pen so they could continue getting familiar with it. I let one of my production reds in to lay an egg sometime this morning. A while later I went to open the nest box and out jumped the old English rooster and he ran off in the woods. He went up into a tree. I went out to let the red out of the pen when she was done laying an egg and out ran a bantam hen and she took off into the woods the opposite way of the rooster. So I'm sitting here calling chickens and almost in tears. Will they come back to the pen tonight? I'm so distraught!

I think they will come back, especially if their 3 other flockmates are still in the coop. You can leave some food/treats near the coop to entice them to come back. I'm not familiar with the behavior of OEGBs, but if they're anything like any other chickens I've raised, they won't go too far. I hope they come back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
 
They came back! At dusk, the roo came strutting his stuff up to the coop like nothing had happened. Then little pullet came out of the woods at the exact same time. I spent my entire day out in the woods trying to find those two! They were probably watching me the entire time laughing. But it was worth it. That little roo is the cutest thing I've ever seen.

HOORAY!!! They probably were laughing at you---bantams are sly little turds. So glad you got them back! :)
 
Just an addition to this, you can leave a light on in the coop (if you have power) and that tends to entice the birds to return come evening. Banty birds are a free spirited bunch, a whole lot of attitude in a small package. I have about thirty and just love them to death. I have given up on keeping a large fowl rooster with my other flock, but I keep a banty rooster or two around the place at all times.

Glad your birds came home… that is always nice.

I'm sure they were!!! They are such little troublemakers! Its adorable though. That little roo could get by with anything. And I think he knows how cute he is!

I have a large (well hes not full grown yet) rooster and he is scared to death of my little rooster. They dont fight but he about jumps out of his feathers when the little one comes around.

They have all came back to the coop every night since then. They don't go too far from it during the day. Last night I had one of the hens up in a tree, i thought she was going to try to roost there all night but about dusk she flew down into the coop.
