Hatching

So we are new to this. Our hen was very broody for a few months. I tried to break her of it but she kept right at it. A friend of mine gave me some of her fertile eggs and told me to put them under her and she will hatch them and get what she wants. So I put eggs under her. We were evacuated due to a huge fire for 8 days and when we got back she has 3 cute little chicks. She is a great mother. Unfortunately 2 of her chicks drowned in a water bucket we had in our yard for our dogs. It was devastating. I thought to go to the local feed store and get more. We got 6 more to make it a total of 7 including her last one. I put them under her at night and she took them all in (they are 4 days old) hers is about a week old. I went out this morning and opened the coop door, she ran out with hers and the rest started to follow and she pecked them to stay in the coop. She has picked them up and flung them, and she goes out to graze with her baby, but the others aren't allowed out. She just pecks them and they are afraid of her. I don't know if this is normal and it takes time? Please advise! I'm so clueless. Thank you!!

I'm new to but I think you need to put the new chicks in a brooder with a heat lamp. And of course chick feed and water. Sounds like she's not going to accept them and she could kill them if not separated asap. Maybe someone else will chime in.

I would agree, she's not going to take them, not every broody wants every chick, you are now the mom, so set up your brooder before they are killed, sorry.
