What kinda mix do you think this it? It looked very unique to me. I know hybrids can give strange combinations, but I've never seen one this stark. Like there's no fade from one to the other. It's like a line. One coloring stops here and the next starts. Any guesses? Just for fun.





 
I'd guess it has a decent percentage of blue laced Wyandotte. I'm also thinking cockerel, based on the very coloring you noticed. How old is the bird?
 
Supposed to be 9 months. Of course, I know nothing about chickens, but now that I'm looking at the top of the head, I can see where you'd say cockeral. You think it's a boy if it's 9 months old? Supposedly laying eggs, but if they weren't in separate beds, don't know that they could tell that.

If that bird is 9 months old, it's a pullet. Looks like it might be a Cornish crossed with a Wyandotte. She is pretty. She's got a blue dilute gene which usually causes a dark grey on the head, that fades to a lighter grey on the tail. She looks very similar to blue laced reds, but she doesn't have crisp lacing.
 
I'm getting nervous here. This has to be a pullet or back it goes. No roos for me. She said everything she had was less than 9 months old. The youngest was a Barred Rock at 5 1/2 months old, all laying. She had her roos separate and all I was supposed to be looking at were pullets. Please tell me I didn't end up with a rooster. SMH! Did she see sucker coming?
 
Here's the others. Please tell me they are pullets. Now I'm scared. Here's the "girls" I got. The Barred Rock is supposed to be pure Barred Rock and 5 1/2 months old, laying. The multi colored one, I just plain forgot to ask. I was so taken by her coloring. However, the other girls were all mixed ages up to 9 months. The light one, she gave me a name for, but I don't recall it. I believe it was a Star/Orphinton mix. I call her strawberry blonde with a splash. :)













You know how hard it is to get them to be still for pics, so this was the best I could do. Please tell me I didn't get totally messed up. She has a good reputation and made sure I knew that if I had any problems with them or any concerns, I could bring them back at any time.

Your light red one with the white in the tail is a red sexlink pullet. She doesn't have any Orpington in her. They have white skin which is a dominant trait.
All of them look like pullets.

You're making me feel better! I think she's pretty too, and will get better after her molt. Definately has the blue dilute gene. My husband came home and I took him out to show him. When I picked this one up, you can see the blue all through the head piece and the body, on down to the tail end. Is lacing what you call it when a color edges the outside of the feathers? She has that all over. I think Wyandotte is in there for sure. Her neck is stretched out in the pictures. When she's at rest, it's not so skinny and she doesn't look as stark, if you know what I mean. She looks fierce in the pics but not so much just walking around. What I think is going to happen, and felt this when I got her, is that when she molts, there will be more of a fade and she's have more blue lacing, if that's what you call it, all over her body. It would look striking over the light red.

That's great that they all look like pullets. I thought I did ok for a first timer. Like I said, I was guessing on the light red one. She gave me a name with Star in it but I can't remember. I think Big447 called her a Red Star. That may be what the lady said. I know we talked about Orpingtons, so that's probably where that came from. She had alot of different kinds, only a few that were pure, the rest hybrids. I'm not all the concerned because I just want eggs and won't ever breed them. So I choose for brown eggs and pretty chicken.
