I was gone for 5 days and when I picked my rooster up he had a cough, sneeze and was gurgling. The place was not particularly clean. I've treated for lung mites with Ivermectin. Am thinking of putting antibiotics in my flocks water for 10 days. Any suggestions? Please help. This is my first flock. He is a Buff Orpington and he is 4 mos old.

Whatever you do keep him isolated and well away from your flock. A broad spectrum antibiotic may help, as well as vitamins / electrolytes to boost his immune system.

Beware however, because it could be a virus, which is likely to mean that he will be a carrier of the virus for life and he will infect your whole flock. They will all then suffer the same symptoms intermittently for their whole lives.

All the best

Yeah, it could well be. I introduced a chicken that had infectious bronchitis and now all my flock have it. Very annoying as i can't sell my or even give my chickens away as i would not want to them to infect another flock.

Might be better to give him the chop rather than risk the rest of your flock? - i would personally do that just be on the safe side.

Good luck in whatever you decide

Ugg. Yes I hear what you are saying loud and clear. Makes sense. I will sleep on it and figure out what to do. Thanks again.
