Hi. I am new here. So much info!!! Currently I have one duck. I am working on a pen that is about 7×7 and a coop about the same. I am wondering how many ducks would comfortable live in this area. I would like to have a total of four or five but want to make sure they are comfortable. Any advise would be great. Thanks
 
Would this be an all day/night pen, or will they be free ranging at all during the day? Is it completely enclosed, or is it open? How large is their house?
 
The coop would be for night. They would have the ability to go in during the day, but I will lock them at night. I want them to free range but I am nervous of them disappearing. In that note I am still very up on the air on free range. Many dogs in the area. My dog is currently afraid of her. But that's not speak of others. The pen is roughly 7×7×7 coop is 10×7 at best guess. I am very up in the air on free range.
 
If you have a 7x7 pen and won't be free ranging, then stick to 2 ducks. I'm not sure of the min space recommendations, but I think going by those, then you can probably fit more as it might be 10sq ft per duck. But if you have 5 ducks in a 7x7 pen all the time, there isn't much in there for them and you will have bored ducks and a mud mess once you add a water source for them.

If their house is 10x7, then you have more than enough space for 5 ducks in there.



My girls are in 500 sq ft when they are penned up during baby fox training season. I have now 4 ducks and 1 chicken and I hate having them confined to that size space and it is grass free from them (though there are a few weeds that survive their abuse). And that is with them getting an hour or two of supervised free range time.
 
Thanks for the recommendation. Sounds like I would be better off sticking to less. I would like to free range them I am a nervous they won't return at night. My single duck at the moment is not easy to catch and is very nervous about being held. She thinks she is simply to look at, never to touch. Lol. They will also most likely be sharing the coop with a few hens. The hens will be free range and will stay in for the night. I have had some chickens when I was young and def. Remember their rush to roost at night. I appreciate the advise. I think my duck flock should stay smaller than originally planned. I am looking to get call ducks. Anybody have advise on them.
