Exotica
C'est La Vie
Please help. I'm hysterical and cannot think straight right now.
My dog has been around my chicks before but always supervised. I've never left them alone
but my Mother, who I've warned THOUSANDS of times to NOT LET MY DOG OUT - let him out because "I've seen them together
when you're there and it's okay." My dog is also a small dog so she thought it would be okay.
Well now she knows and feels immensely guilty for not listening to me.
Unfortunately, I was doing an essay that was due for my ENG 1C: Critical Thinking class so I did not notice he was gone.
I had just finished my coop last week and I let them out for a little bit before I went in to finish my essay.
My little sister (12) was sick today so she was walking in and out to play with the chicks/do whatever she does, so I wasn't worried.
20 minutes later I hear a scream.. I come out to two of my Blue Silkies, my Light Brahma, and Red Laced Blue Wyandotte dead.
My Cream Legbar also seemed dead and ants were all over it.
As I went to go pick up their bodies to bury.. my Cream Legbar moved and I quickly killed all the ants on her and removed her.
The rest I buried in their favorite place to dust bathe.. and together, as a flock.
Anyways, Avery is in a shoe box with pine shavings and a heat lamp right now since she is only about 1.5 weeks old.
When I first found her, I used a straw to feed her drops of honey infused water with Save-A-Chic.
At first she was breathing heavily but now her breathing is normal. She has been sleeping since 3PM.. I believe it is shock.
The Save-A-Chic is in the bowl and some food but she hasn't ate anything. I do not want to force her..
She did move! From one side of the box to the other.. and is now sleeping again. She wasn't able to stand up fully though and just sorta
hobbled over.. I think her leg is broken..
What do I do now? What should I feed her tomorrow if she refuses to eat?
Update: She just opened her eyes, hobbled a bit, and pooped. I believe her left leg is broken
or she just doesn't have the energy to walk?
WARNING: POOP AND DEAD BABY CHICKS!
^ When I first picked her up..
^ From left to right.. Rest In Peace my sweet babies: Cadence the Red Laced Blue Wyandotte, Dakota the Blue Silkie,
Esmé the Light Brahma, and Eden the Blue Silkie..
^ 15 minutes after I picked her up..
^ 20 mins..
^ She hobbled over here by herself.. I also change where the water and food bowl are.
The AC is on in my room since it is so hot in California. My room is about 70 so the heat lamp that close
brings her up to about 85-90 (I checked with my thermometer).
^ Not bloody red but very, very, very slightly pink.. so does that mean no internal injuries?
Hopefully it's not something else like her lungs ):
^ Poor Avery.. Please make it through love but if you can't, I will not selfishly keep you here.
I'm mostly mad at my mother because I've honest to God told her countless times to please keep my dog inside if I am not there.
Today she finally understands why but it was not worth four lives.. potentially five. I'm not sure what to do..
Should I put Avery out of her misery or give her a chance? When should I make that decision? If she doesn't get better in three days.. four.. two?
What do I feed her? I'm just so broken right now.. This is my first flock and the first animals that have ever died on me..
And it was all just so unnecessary...
