I acquired a 2-1/2 year old RIR roo today.... he seems to be in good health other than an 's'-shaped head shake that he seems to do about every 5 - 10 minutes. Additionally, I noticed some "yawning" (or "gaping") once or twice also.

I have him quarantined from the other birds and will be worming with Corrid and dusting for mites.... following up with pro-biotics afterwards.

Any insight or suggestions regarding this strange head shaking?

Many thanks for any advice.

First of all, Corid is only for the treatment of coccidiosis, and not a wormer. It almost sounds as if he is adjusting his crop. What does the crop feel like tonight, and please check it in the morning to feel if it has empties normally. Some of his neck movements may be normal, but if they are done repeatedly, he may be exhibiting some neurological behavior or symptoms of wry neck. I would probably place some poultry vitamins in his water, or give him 3 ml daily of Poultry Nutri-drench, in case of wry neck or a vitamin deficiency. Valbazen 1/2 ml given once and repeated after 10 days is a very good wormer.Pleas let us know how he is getting along.
