How do you know which females to put with which males?
If I have 5 females, and three males, should I just cull two males and keep the 5 with one male?
WIth bobwhites, is there a minimum number of females to male ratio?
Right now they are in a group. In the spring, how will I know when to separate them? Hope to do it before there is any injury.

I am not breeding them, just keeping them for eggs and fun.

Bobwhites do best with only one or two hens, they don't breed as aggressively as coturnix. If it were me I'd make one pair and two trios. Just get three different colors of zip tie, to mark what groups belong together and use them like leg bands.

Thank you both. I take it that it doesn't matter how I sort them out the first time.

So, now they are in one group and doing fine. If you happen to have any tips on how to know when to separate them in the spring, I would love to hear them!
