Hi I am new on BYC and one of our four Pekin Bantams has not opened her eye for four days. We only have hens and the leader hen does't normal peck her.
Welcome to the BYC flock! We are glad you joined us!
Sorry to hear about your hen. You may want to consider posting this on the emergencies forum for a quicker response. Pictures are great, so he sure to include those. Be sure to also include things like:
Is she eating/drinking?
Is her poop normal?
Have you tried looking into the eye? If so, what do you see? Does she still have an eye? Is there any drainage or pus? Etc
Any information you can think of that would help people help you.
Welcome to BYC! I'm glad you joined us! I agree with the posters above, but I know sometimes chickens just have an eye that they rarely open. I had a Silkie that hardly ever opened one of her eyes for years.
with a breed like silkie or polish, I would wonder if some feather(s)rubbed against the eye lid. This would irritate the cornea. It would be good to address this promptly either with the er folks or a vet visit., before any damage becomes permanent. There are several health concerns that cause eye problems. Others where eye problem is the first sign.
