I have five young birds, one I know is a rooster and I am pretty sure the other four are pullets. My EE pullet confuses me though, because the other females do a lot of peeping and cheeping (high pitched) whereas she hardly ever says anything unless she becomes separated from the group then she calls to them, but it is deeper croaking type noise. Her voice sounds a lot more like my cockerel, so then I started asking myself if perhaps she is really a late blooming roo. I really don't think so but I thought I would ask all of you since I am new to chickens and don't have much experience. Here she is:
I just assume she is an EE because of the green legs. Those black tail feathers come in make me think Black Tailed Japanese EE.
Also, any input on the rest of the flock is appreciated. The father of all of them is presumably a Japanese bantam (the only other possibility was a silkie but none of them look to have silkie in them) and the mothers could have been any of a dozen breeds (common and mainly bantam types but I don't recall the specific breed possibilities). Everyone is approximately 14 weeks at this point. I am curious about my Maggie, the gray one with dark head and neck feathers, because a month ago she was the second biggest next to Reese (brown feathers around the neck) and now the others have caught up and are even starting to surpass her in size. Also, her tail feathers tend to be more horizontal and aren't long and sticking up like the rest of them.
You can see in the picture above that the EE is a little more cream color than white, compared to the white of the rooster. In fact, a few days ago I noticed she is getting yellowy blotches!
Here you can see how upright the feathers of the others are compared to Maggie. They sometimes point a little upward like two pics down, but for the most part they do not have the sharp uprise of the other birds. She is also a bit fluffier.
