Muscovy duck gender

Hi there,
I was recently given 2 mascovy ducks and were told they are both male and approximately 13 weeks old. One hisses, the other doesn't and for whatever reason I'm not convinced that they are both male. Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated. Thanks height/400[/IMG]

And I just finished building them their own house with deck and they don't seem to be very friendly with the chickens yet lol

I am not a Muscovy person, and yet in the top photo, the one on the left looks like a duck (female) to me and the one on the right looks like a drake. I cannot say exactly why, except there is less caruncling and she looks a little smaller and just more like a duck.

Welcome to BYC @jodiodi Can you get a full body front view.. I am leaning on same as you and Amiga but this is how I tell Duck from Drake with my Muscovy's. The females have a rounder body shape with shorter tail [someone once said their body resembles an American foot ball] in shape., and when looking at them from the front their legs are set closer together and when they walk they almost look pigeon toed. The drake legs are set farther apart are thicker and when looking at side view the body is long. also most females will have their wing feathers in quicker than the drakes this is ducks of same age. Looking at the pic again though they both look same size is this true? Drakes will have begun to outgrow females by the age of your 2 Scovy's
Muscovy's are great flyers too so once those wing feather grow out and you don't want them flying off you might want to consider clipping one wing on each other them.
Muscovy's are wonderful ducks, they do hiss but it's not to be taken as an insult it's just their nature since they don't quack. Females make a trilling sound.And they all will wag their tails but drakes do it more.

There is a size difference between them but not a huge amount. The one I think is male is the larger one, the one I think is female makes a trilling sound. The male also is a bit bossy, he pecks at the chickens if they come near his food, the other duck doesn't mind sharing too much lol
