Concerned about amerucana bantam

I'm a first time chicken owner and I currently have two Rhode island reds, one barred rock, and one what I assume is an amerucana bantam though I could be wrong.( When we bought her she was just called a bantam chick) I'm worried about the bantam because it's starting to get cold and she's really small. I don't know if she'll be able to handle winter or if this is the normal

size for her breed. Here are some pics of her.



She's also stated brooding for some reason and is spending most of her days in the coop. I've been letting her do it since a hawk has starting hunting the flock and she's the perfect size for a snack.


I just want to know if she's healthy and if not what should I do. My chickens are my pets so I want to give them the best life I can. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!
 
She's a cutie and looks healthy and happy to me. My bantams that I've had in the past were just diminutive versions of full sized hens. They had no problems with typical midwest winters as long as they had shelter, food, water and somebody to cuddle up to at night they did fine. No doubts your little lady will do the same.

So when will hatching day be?
 
That's good to hear! It's great to know she's healthy and I hope she gets through the winter. The weather can be a little crazy were I live, one day it's in the 90s and the next it's 60 degrees. The eggs she's sitting on won't hatch since I don't have roosters but I do plan on getting two soon and I'm going to let her hatch a chick when I do.
 
Boy is she going to be disappointed!

From a medical POV an unhealthy creature be they human or animal, doesn't want to reproduce when they are not in optimum health.

That's good to know i guess she's healthy. I do make her come off her nest at least three times a day so she can get some greens and spend time with the flock.
 
Usually they come off once on their own to eat drink and make a gigantic poo.

I just keep getting this cartoon like mental image of a determined hen looking down at her not fertile eggs that she has been sitting on for what seems like her forever and saying to herself....."When are these #^!&#@ things going to hatch?" I got the same image when a friend's hen did the same thing with 7 eggs earlier this spring. Her rooster was old and firing blanks and the poor hen didn't give up until they finally took the eggs away from her.
 
That's the best image I've had in my head all day! :lol: she does come ofv on her own but won't come out of the run so I have to take her to out.
 
Not an Ameraucana, wrong colored legs ...maybe easter egger with the muff she has....nice looking bird.

Might want to break her broodiness if you're not going to give her fertile eggs to hatch.
