I'm new to the site and can't wait to get learning. Who'd have thought chickens were so interesting! I'm a single mother with a job that has me dealing with unpleasant topics all day and my 15 minutes with my feathered family in the afternoon at the back steps before I walk them home and put them to bed has well and truly become my favourite part of the day. I have bantams, your run of the hill hens and my fav.... Silkies. Hoping to learn enough that I might be able to try my hand at breaking the silkies.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. Raising chickens is a wonderful experience for children. Our children and granddaughter (pictured in my avatar) loved our chickens and made lap pets of the calmer and more gentle breeds.) If you haven't done so already, definitely check out our Learning Center at https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center. There is lots of useful information there. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Cheers.

Welcome to Backyard chickens. Since Silkies are your favorites, I'm sure you'd like to check out the "Silkie thread," and learn from other silkie breeders and fans.
