Stuck on butt

I have a chicken that finally hatched on its own after pipping for more than 24 hours and it has something stuck to its butt. What should I do? There's another chicken that has a pip in there so I know I'm not supposed to open it.

Hi welcome-byc.gif

Glad you could join the flock! Could you post a pic? Does it look like a cord coming out of it? If it's just a cord this will dry up and come away on its own accord. You don't need to remove it as pulling it could cause it's abdomen to come through too.

If it's not just a cord it could be unabsorbed yolk, a hernia or an infection of the umbilical area. If you could post back what it is this would really help.

Good luck with your chick and pipper.
