Can a pigeon look after a baby chicken?

I love in Australia so there's heaps. There is a huntsman I have seen (and tried to kill, but it's way to scary) and Australian red backs (I think?) they are big black spiders, but there are heaps of little ones too

Hello, I to see how old is thread is, but just in case somebody sees it I have some questions. I just hatched a chicken from our pigeons, and they are very very protective of it. I think they will raise it. I put chick feed and water right outside the box. A friend raised the question that what if the chick tries to eat the pigeon, food and chokes. She raises chickens I don’t, but I was wondering if anybody who had success or a failure could inform me. I think we’re on day two of they baby chicks life. The other concern I have is that the pigeons live with other pigeon so I did read that separating them out might be a better option for the check to try to survive. Thanks for any insight!

For any chance of success I think the mated pair and the chick need to be separated or better yet the other pigeons could be separated if that’s reasonable for you. When breeding is going on the other males can be extremely aggressive to pigeon squabs. Normally, the squabs are stuck in the nest and defended by the parents. I think the pigeons would struggle to protect the chick from other pigeons.

I’m not sure if the chick would choke to death on the pigeon seed. Pigeons can happily eat chicken pellets and crumbles (though they definitely like the crumbles less).

I’m also not sure if it would stress the pigeons out not being able to feed the chick. Especially during the first couple days the parents are either sitting over or feeding the squab at all times. How are the pigeons doing? Do they seem stressed following the chick around?

I don’t recommend keeping pigeons and chickens together long term. But if the pigeons are handling it well, I don’t see why this couldn’t work for a month or less which is when pigeons leave their parents’ care.
