Hi! I'm Shelley. I'm new to raising chickens. I have 5 backyard chickens. 4 hens,1 rooster. I'm really enjoying it. Looking forward to adding more as space allows.

Hi Shelley,

If you haven't checked out the Learning Center yet, take a look at the really helpful articles there. All sorts of topics are covered and they can help you get off on the right foot. Feel free to ask questions too, lots of knowledgeable members here to help.

What breed of chickens do you have? When you decide to add more, watch your hen to roo ratio...1 roo can easily handle 10 hens, you don't want to run the risk of overbreeding.

Thanks for joining us!

I have 2 Silkies,1 Leghorn,1 Buff Orpington,& 1 Barnevelder. I live in town & I'm not allowed to have roosters. I got rid of the others that turned out to be roosters. My neighbors agreed it was ok with them, so I'm keeping this last 1. I was running out of chickens! Next time I'll pay extra & get them from someone who can sex them better.

Thanx for the advice.

Welcome!!

This is the place to find the answers to ALL your chicken questions. If you can't find the answer yourself just ASK, someone else went though what your going through now.

This site has been sooooo helpful to me.
