My 22 chickens were laying 6-8 eggs per day ( I know not great) and were eating layer crumbles. I ran out of layer crumble for 3 days. During those days I fed them cracked corn until I could get layer crumbles again. When they were on corn they went from 6 eggs to 2 eggs to no eggs. They have been back on layer crumbles for 3 days and I'm still not getting eggs. How can I fix this?

Not sure if this matters but my chickens are Leghorns Black sex links and Easter Eggers that are 7.5 months old. And they have lights or day light in their coop 24/7.

It could be that they are still adjusting. Chickens don't take change very well. They get a little stressed over it. Give them some time to get used to eating the layer food again. When they feel satisfied they will start to lay.

Have you had any Attack that may have stressed them?

It won't be long and they'll be back laying. You cut their protein intake in half by giving them corn for three days (16-20% layer down to 8% corn). To produce an egg a bird uses a lot of protein.

Update: I got 2 eggs today. Hopefully production picks up quickly.

I'm new to raising chickens and my girls have not started laying yet. I've been reading everything I can about raising chickens. I also agree that your girls might have gotten stressed from the lack of protein in there diet over the 3 days. I was also concerned that you leave a light on in your coop 24/7. I thought the coop was for roosting and the hens to recharge by getting sleep. We are not planning on putting any additional lighting into our coop other than what comes through the windows. I've read that chickens only need about 14 hours of daylight to produce eggs. During the winter months the hens production may drop because of less light but it's also a way of allowing the hens to charge there systems for laying more in the spring, summer and early fall. I've also read that forcing hens to lay with more light during the darker months can cause ovarian cancer. I'm sure someone can answer this better than me but I will keep reading.'Hope your girls will be back to normal soon.
