I'm new to raising chickens and my girls have not started laying yet. I've been reading everything I can about raising chickens. I also agree that your girls might have gotten stressed from the lack of protein in there diet over the 3 days. I was also concerned that you leave a light on in your coop 24/7. I thought the coop was for roosting and the hens to recharge by getting sleep. We are not planning on putting any additional lighting into our coop other than what comes through the windows. I've read that chickens only need about 14 hours of daylight to produce eggs. During the winter months the hens production may drop because of less light but it's also a way of allowing the hens to charge there systems for laying more in the spring, summer and early fall. I've also read that forcing hens to lay with more light during the darker months can cause ovarian cancer. I'm sure someone can answer this better than me but I will keep reading.'Hope your girls will be back to normal soon.
