Asking for someone else....hatching out in an incubator, 20 fertile eggs, chicks moving inside...one hatched fine, one had trouble...3 pipped and died, the rest are all dead now...what did she do wrong?

they were due to hatch Thursday....she candled right before lockdown, they were moving etc. She has not cracked open any eggs, she is assuming they died.

she just candled them, fully formed, no sounds coming from the egg...she is going to open one and see how far along. What would be the reason they all died? I have 18 in my incubator now, 10 days from hatch...I'd like to know ideas in case I have the same issue!! All mine are moving and alive right now....

Did she calibrate her hygrometer and thermometer? The temp was too low for still air. I would suggest that she join BYC, go to the learning center and read: Hatching Eggs 101. It will answer questions she didn't even know she had. IMO, it should be required reading before plugging in an incubator!! I wish you the best with your hatch. She can come onto BYC as a guest, and read threads and learning center articles.

eggs were not shipped
temp was 99.5
humidity around 50%
still air incubator
Yes, the temp was way too low for a still air--which should be at 101.5-102.5. Also, 50% is too low humidity for hatch time (should be between 60 -75-that would explain the chicks that pipped then died. I would be surprised if any hatched out with that low of temperature. Also, she may have had an inaccurate thermometer/hygrometer. Hope you have good success with your hatch!
