I use it here is So Cal. The girls dust bath, but it's not something they burrow in. It is however very absorbent and dries very quickly. I understand moisture in a winter coop is a cause of frostbite and other issues. They will be roosting at night, so a draft free ventilated coop is paramount. For warmth, I would think deep litter would retain more body heat when burrowing.Does the sand keep them warm if they burrow in it
