Considering getting another homing pigeon...

Hello all, and thank you for reading my question :)

So, a couple of years ago my husband (who works at a cemetery) rescued a beautiful homing pigeon that did not follow its flock home. It was very cold and stormy out when they released them, and two of them did not make it out of the park (Late November in Oregon) Unfortunately the other one was killed...Anyways, the pigeon hung around the shop at my husbands work for 2 weeks. He was not banded, so My husband ended up bringing him home because a big snow storm hit and he was convinced he would die otherwise. So we named him Angel, and he has been with us ever since November of 2013. Angel spent the winter in a large flight cage inside our home. He was very calm and seemed content. When the weather started getting nice during the spring, we would bring his cage outside during the day so he could enjoy the outdoors. After a year or so, we decided to let him free fly. He did wonderfully. Tore up the sky, spent the day outside sunbathing on the roof, made it a few blocks away throughout the day, then right at sundown he came home and just walked right into our house like he owned the place. Since then we have been letting him spend his days outside when the weather permits and just leave the back door open for him to come and go to his cage as he pleases. The other day however, we were watching him on our neighbors roof. He went to take off and a hawk, who I guess had been scoping him out, swooped down and tried to grab him. Luckily he was able to dodge him and take off, he disappeared for a few hours but did come home unscathed that night. Since then I have seen a couple of hawks hanging around our house and I feel like they are just waiting for him to come back out! So I decided it was time to bring him in for the season since its rainy and stormy now anyways where we live. I built him an aviary for inside, its about 6' long x 6' tall, with shelves and perches for him. He seems to like it much better than the smaller cage. What I am wondering however, is if we should get another pigeon to add to it. I know that pigeons are very social and mate for life, and I feel like I'm being a bad pigeon mom by keeping him isolated. I know he is a male because he dances, bows, spins, and coos, especially if he catches a reflection of himself in the window (he loves to court the sliding glass door). Would he accept another bird into his aviary? I'm thinking there may be a better chance since the aviary is new to him then if we wait until he is established in his new home? Just wanting input from someone with more experience. Sorry the post is soooo long, but I like to give people all the details before I ask them what they would do in our situation!

Thanks!

:welcome  He would readily accept a hen, but then you can be guaranteed that they would start a nest and try to rear young.  It does not sound as if your set up is conducive to that.  It sounds as if he has a pretty good life as is.  Hawks, sadly enough, are a constant threat if we dare to fly our birds.
