Pekin duck walking on hocks

Poor baby

she is very lucky to have someone so committed to her. I am sure this will be very difficult for both of you, but difficult circumstances form the strongest bonds so you will also be very close. You may want to check out the house duck thread https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/632070/show-off-your-house-ducks whether you decide to go that way or not, there are many ideas there for living very close with your duck and there are lots of great people there who for one reason or another have decided to have their ducks live indoors with them.

Hey guys! So i took daisy to the vet and this one definately knew what she was talking about, she was very informative and did a great job explaining to me whats wrong with daisy. There is good news and bad news, the good news is that the bones in her legs are normal nothing is slipped or out of place. The bad news is that her legs were hyper extended and she will unfortunately never be able to walk again

This was caused by a lack of B2 and riboflavin, the vet said that its becoming more common in white pekin ducks and she was born this way so theres nothing that i could have done to prevent it from happening. Even though she wont be able to walk ill continue to love her, cuddle her and keep her happy for the rest of her life!

I have a duck that's is doing the same thing. Glad to hear the results. Now I know. The duck has a mate (same age). So they can hang out together. I keep them in a small area.

Thank you guys for the feedback! The shots the vet gave her were B12. I did a lot if research before taking her to the vet and i actually tried to supplement her food and water with niacin but it didnt do anything and the vet said it wouldnt help so i stopped giving it to her. Is there a soecific kind if niacin i should give her?
I have two Pekins. My oldest female was laying soft eggs. Someone told me she wasn't getting enough niacin. They told me that I could get it from my local drug store. I checked and found it at Walgreens. I used their FLUSH FREE NIACIN 500 MG

Probably a shot in the dark but almost ten years later I have a Pekin with the same problem. OP if you see this can you let me know how quality of life for your Daisy ended up? We are considering putting our Baby out of her misery.
