The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

I hope I do not hurt myself today!
I'm good so far but it hasn't started raining and I'm going to put the summer tires on my car so I still have a chance. Will be the first time using the pneumatic wrench.

I had a bad reaction to a cat scratch once.
Yep, always wash those cat scratches REALLY REALLY well. As @Blooie said, even when properly washed you can get an infection.

I just love yellow! 2 walls are wood, so not painting them.
So do I! So nice and bright.
The house we're moving has an entrance kinda of sunroom deal that's yellow.

pneumatic wrenches are great!

Any scratch, bite or nick we got at the animal hospital no matter how small was documented, the injury washed in a specific disinfecting solution, treated and covered - no exceptions. This injury was too. But it still happened. <sigh>. Luck of the draw?

That stinks!

Maybe that cat had more bacteria or something?

Now you guys are scaring me and making me paranoid haha

Why are cats so bad out of all the other animals?

And should I just not have cats anymore?

I'm rather proud of myself. DS told me he'd seen a rat down the back "and it wasn't in the trap"! I told him to stay away from it. Later I saw it so I grabbed a bit of wood and whacked it on the head. It was dozy from eating the poison which was good because I have terrible aim! It's body was as big as my foot!

I think I've talked DH into getting a whippet to be my ratter/rabbiter as we'll need one in the country (our poor country is overrun with both, plus we have stoats and other than hawks there's nothing to eat them). I'm not sure I could cope with a terrier but a sight hound knows how to blob out when it's not work time. We couldn't afford to register two dogs in Auckland. It's a third of the price for dog registration where we are looking at going!

How are the keets hatching Cap? Have you got buyers lined up for them?

Michelle, you are putting us to shame. We need to get stuck in and get this place painted. I've been sanding all the doorframes in preparation for painting as they are all new and needed filling.
Whipets are great. Just make sure they're in a fully fenced area otherwise they'll take off until they reach an obstacle. Often they can't find their way back.

I just read a story about a man losing his legs and all 5 fingers on one hand due to coming down with sepsis from a dog scratch. He'd been rough housing with his cocker spaniel (not the best idea with any dog really!) and got a small scratch on his hand. 2 weeks later he started feeling sick and ended up in hospital.

I have to say I've never got sick from my pets and I've always had cats. I grew up with many cats (and dogs) on the farm until the family moved to suburbia. Heck, you can go into hospital and end up with a super bug so I don't think it's something to lose sleep over.

Good to know. I love Salukis too but they are much rarer in NZ so would no doubt be pricey! I'm sure our mutt has some whippet in her as she runs like the wind. She surprised a Doberman owner one day at the dog park as the Doberman was left for dust. She's great at being a couch potato too!

Sepsis is a big issue! it is one of the main killers of Seniors.

Bites and scratches always need to be well taken care of for sure

Sight hounds are actually pretty lazy. Let them run once or twice a week and the rest of the time they just laze around. Greyhounds have a nickname... 60mph couch potatoes
