The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Good evening folks :frow

Sue update is kind of middle of the road today. I left for the hospital early as her MRI showed multiple strokes since Saturday. I don't know how to describe them other than to say mini-strokes that don't really do damage. It would seem that her headaches have each been one of those. She lost the use of her right arm after one, but today she's got full function of that arm. She's also developed a fever and we don't know why, but doing a full spectrum of tests to find out why. She was also more alert today and more talkative. She's turning into a pin cushion... They are having difficulty finding veins to take blood from and her stents are shutting down. Her temp today spiked at 100.1 and that wigged her docs out, which didn't do much for me. She's down to 99.? when I left today. But fever suggests infection and we need to know where an what. Folks, I'm on a roller coaster and really don't like it.

:hugs I'm sending lots of hugs your way. Poor Sue, and poor you. Hopefully the doctors will figure out what's going on. :hugs

Bob love, hugs and prayers to Sue and you.. Is there a hospital near you that is good with unusual cases? With a child I would pick St.Jude's. With an adult I would think Mayo Clinic but, don't know what they are best with.
1211 Medical Center Dr, Nashville, TN 37232 This is the address for vanderbilt...
The mini strokes do not sound like aneurysms?

100.1 is not that high of a fever-- UTI from a catheter? My Dad had those all the time
I hope it is that simple.... this whole thing is comlicated.

Thank you Jae :hugs :hugs

Good morning everyone!

:frow Good morning Debby, have a great day. Thanks. We know there's going to be good and bad days, It just sucks when a not so good one comes along. And thank you . :hugs:hugs

Bob, is your daughter still there with you? It has to hard to be the only one around to deal with everything going on.
Yes she is, but she's now scaring me too. Yesterday, when we changed shifts, she fell asleep in the car in the hospital garage. She gets angry with me because I don't ask enough questions. I don't ask questions, because I simply don't know what to ask. I have Sue in one of the best hospitals in the country for what she's dealing with, I have to trust that they know what they are doing.

You both must be exhausted. Don't forget to take care of yourself too. I'd probably be in the same boat as far as not knowing what to ask. Glad to hear Sue is in one of the best places to help her with this, that has to be some reassurance. :hugs

Thanks Debby... Sarah has a rare eye disease and it took us three years until we stumbled upon the right doc at Johns Hopkins who knew how to fix her. Because of her journey she now asks lots of questions. I need to get better at it, but I know when I'm out of my depth.

When My Dad was dying, I had one of the best docs in the county on my staff. I gave him my dad's medical records and asked for him to review... He gave me six questions to ask Dad's docs... Their answers panned out, and Dad still died just a few months later. Though there's a lot of science in medicine today, there's just as much guess work as there is science. That scares me to death in situations like I'm in today.

Fear causes people to think/act differently then they normally would. I can only imagine how scared you both are.
