Morning from chilly, windy Ohio.

I'm seven months into chickens, after two years of trying to prepare and educate myself. What I've learned? I'd been better off building a coop with all the chicken books instead of reading them. Nothing beats jumping in full and just start grubbing around in it. The birds teach me more than a book can.

That said, I'm still completely ignorant. I'm a hog girl with a couple useless college degrees. Chickens? Clueless. We just stare at each other like aliens. They're fat, no one's died, I get piles of eggs and giggles; calling it a win so far. It hasn't been without a whole bunch of tears and a smidgen of bloodshed, though.

Soooo, I'm crawling in here, the lowly dingbat, looking for golden nuggets of brilliance.

Thanks a gazillion.

I hope you enjoy your experience here and get the advice you needed. What specific questions do you have that we could possibly answer for you right now? We're always happy to help and answer any questions you have.

Hi and thanks! Today's burning issue is turmoil in a new coop. I posted in flock management, it's been so weird. :/ Nice birds turned nasty, nasty birds got quiet, and no one's following the rules. Same birds, giant new coop, and they're being unappreciative poops.

But alas, they're settling down faster than me. I'm in shock and getting gypped out of my morning chicken love because their behavior is so wonky.

Yay, birds! lol

Thanks again, and have a super day while I squander mine reading old threads. :)

Welcome to Backyard chickens, when I finish this, I will see if I can find your other post and offer suggestions. We have lots of chicken folks here with pigs, goats, ducks, you name it. The biggest lover of piggies I know is " 3 acres." user name. If you ever have pig questions - look him up. He is a very nice person and very knowledgeable about pigs.

Awesome! Thanks! I always have pig problems! lol But that's my true passion, so if there's a hair out of place, it's a problem. Birds are quickly beginning to come in a close second, though. I just don't understand their behavior enough to comfortably enjoy them yet. Always stressed and confused, I am. :/

I actually saw your other thread first this morning! Sounded like being in the new surroundings freaked the chickens out a bit...are things quieting down now? They are funny little animals and there's always something new to learn about them. Feel free to ask questions whenever you need to.

And reading old posts can be a good way to learn so read away!

Freaked them out a lot! Definitely simmering down. Meanie boy is avoiding me, and he still seems to have it out for three hens in particular. But my sweetest girl jumped in my lap to give me all the gossip this morning.

Maybe future improvements should be run by them first, lol. Silly chickens
