Cows in welded wire

I have never even heard of using a car battery... I really don't know if I would trust a car battery to supply enough juice to keep the fence charged without an alternating current.

We use 110s and they work fine for solar, easily covers about 500 acres a pop.

Corrals have cattle panel and barded wire with sheep panel for the feedyards.

It's one steer, maybe 2? These are steers not bulls or cows; they really aren't going to be interested in much other than eating; it it were a cow/calf pair or a bull, or an area where they will end up being g worked or corralled, more secure fencing will be needed.

My husband uses them. They might not be actually car batteries, they look like car batteries, but I never asked.

many use the solar charger for the battery and the battery for the fence.

this is so the fence stays "hot" at night and on cloudy days.......

Yeah, I edited that... I misread the post. You can use a car battery to POWER the solar charger, but you can't use a car battery to just run a fence all on its own...

Edit* I might have misunderstood you @OrganicFarmWife, the battery will work to power the solar charger..., if that's what you were implying, my apologies ;)

Yeah lol, I pulled apart an old charger and its all pretty much the same components, it would work to power it with a battery...

I was worried, with the way it was worded, that someone might think they could just hook up a car battery to the fence and it would work ha-ha... Yeah, it would work to set the pasture on fire :p

No car battery needed most likely; most solar fence chargers come as one peice :)

And yeah I did not mean that you could. I do not know why he does not use a solar powered charger, other then maybe the price. He has been doing this his whole life so I think he just gets stuck in his ways.

Nothing wrong with being thrifty ;) it actually gave me an idea to bring back life to some old junk chargers if DH ever gets around to it lol, might come in handy in a pinch :D
