Thank you for all your helpful hints I've decided to split the group up now instead of wait till spring so I'll build more then one of these or put the bigger brahmas in the much larger space that was reserved for the jersey giants

Question 3.)
Nature vs nurture I have four young Rhode Island reds I'd still call chicks three were incubator hatched and one was hen hatched... The hen chick was about a week later but the three that were incubator hatched and brooder pen raised are about three times the size of the other... Has anyone documented this before? Do chicks that grow naturally grow slower or end up smaller does temperature effect growth? I'm not entirely sure if a heat lamp is more effective then a broody hen
 
And on another note yesterday when I was checking on my rir chicks I put with the rest of my rir I picked one up and noticed something strange it had little feather stubs like one or two little shoots of feather coming out of its feet.. Now I know daddy had same thing but I thought it was a weird oddity now I'm worried... This isn't a common trait in rirs is it? Is it possible his parent or grand parent were mixed? It's only one or two so maybe there's some brahma or langshan in there?

As for you 12 birds in your tractor idea, speaking from experiance this year, 6 is too many to have a happy flock in that size tractor. I had EE, OLIVE EGGER, BUFF ORP" BARRED ROCK, BLK SEXLINK, AND LEGHORN WHT. When they hit 7 months old i felt like i was lookinh at a sardin can. It worked, but i had to clean it everyday and build a paddock style/movable free range area to make it si i didn't feel like i wss being creul. Just my 2 centsn use what and how you will. :) best of luck to ya
