Howdy all,
I cant seem to get betadine around here (the hospitals even get annoyed when I ask for a bit lol). My question is I was at the pharmacy today and found something called dettol antiseptic. Is this a safe substitute?

Betadine and other iodine-based antiseptics are "out of style" right now. They cause tissue damage, not good. Nolvasan is in! I don't know what Dettol is, but you could google it. Mary

It isn't appoved in the US, and I did read where it is a phenol compound that can be toxic to animals, especially cats. Can you get chlorhexidene in Canada? That is very good and safe.

You can't get betadine as a mouthwash? Maybe ask the pharmacist for a betadine substitute - they should be able to help.

There are several brand names of chlorhexidene, such as Hibiclens and others labeled as "antiseptic wash." This is what most hospitals use nowadays to disinfect skin and for handwashing.

Can anyone tell me the difference between Chlorhexidine Diacetate and Chlorhexidine Gluconate? @Akrnaf2 , this seems like something you might have the answer to.
