I will have tons to share (I hope)!! I am also assuming that these might be in all kinds of color combos because I have Wyandotte, Barred Rock and Cochin Hens with 1 Cochin and 1 Barred Rock rooster LOL! Should be interesting.

I know some that had their incubator go down to 50 degrees on day 25 (ducks) and they still had over a 70% hatch, I think... So I'd not think 40 would kill all of 'em since you caught them before they got down to 40* internal temp.
Cool, I'm keeping my fingers crossed. There hasn't been a problem until now with nest swapping and I think it's because my DH locked them back in the run when he left the house this morning. I usually let them out when I get home at noon but he was off today and I did not know he was planning to go anywhere. My bad.

The broody of mine that just hatched chicks (and they lived) would get confused which box was hers, I would just pull her out and but her in the right box.

I figured her eggs would never hatch I found her in the wrong box on the last really cold snap at 1 below, I moved her onto the cold eggs they hatched fine..

Now the eggs that roll out are not always bad, Candle before you throw away....

They make errors.

To get a more well adjusted chicken it is imperative you pick up each egg for 5-10 minutes everyday and hold it close to your mouth and whisper to it so it gets use to people. Kissing it is not needed like EJB says he does. I think he just likes to to do it.

No wonder I get skittish chicks... I've been doing it all wrong.

I wish I could pull her out....my other broodie has done nothing worse than growl at me but this little lady pecked me hard today! I'm afraid if I try to move her, she will simply go find a hiding spot outside and start all over, abandoning the eggs?

oh and thanks for the advice on socializing my chicks to humans by whispering into their shells....can you send me a picture on how you do it? I mean just so I know I am doing it correctly

It would be better if EJB sent you a video of him holding caressing talking and kissing to his eggs. I think he put it on Youtube for everyone to see.

Try leather gloves, she will stay put if you move her I give you 3-1 odds on that.

Video, not picture. Much funnier much more instructional.
