Surviving Minnesota!

15 mixed chicks almost 2 weeks old

This one I thought would be barred because of the head spot, but it seems to be feathering in all black. With the darker legs I am still thinking female though.

Wyandotte cross. Not sure what kind of lacing/barred this one will get.

Most of the buffed colored ones look like this with the black shading on top of the buff coloring. Maybe the dad was the BA rooster?

Hard to see but I think this one will have buff barring. That would maybe a barred roo over the buff orpington? Or could it be a buff roo over a barred hen? LOL I have not much of a clue on what is dominate or not. But it sure is fun to watch the differences. These chicks are for friends. Hopefully the come get them soon. The price goes up each week I have to keep growing them out! LOL Close friends of ours so it really isn't that big of a deal.

Some of the Dominiques from Ralphie that I hatched out. I have 5 pullets and 2 cockerels. One cockerel is a lot smaller than the other. If it stays that way I will keep the larger of the two. The 5 hens seem to all be similar in size. I don't remember if I got both of the boys on camera or not. They run away when the camera comes out. I probably took pictures of the same pullets too as they are super skittish right now too. What do you think Ralphie?

See how small he is? The CX in the picture are 2.5 wks.

Comparing the pictures this is the bigger one I am 90% sure. The wing feather patter seems different than the other pic.

These guys will be 5 weeks on Sunday/Monday. That was the hatching span.

Now for @holm25 , here is a picture of that EE from the olive egg. We named her Mini short for Minuscule because she was so small compared to the Toads at hatch. She has a lot of red feathering comping in on the top of her body. Must be that Buckeye.

I have found the smaller end up with better body type than the larger one, (in my whole year of experience with them)

The SOP is not for a large bird with the DOMs. IMHO. You want that nice smooth U to the back line. I made the mistake of showing a larger one last fall and the judges corrected me. I thought he would be the perfect shape substituting the size for the shape. As Destiny knows the Judge she clerked for loved the smaller one and even made a note on it, the perfect bird before disqualifying it for spurs.....

Good to know!

Here is a graphic on Earthworm->Cecal worms-> and Histomoniasis. It explains pretty well the life cycles on how everything works. And because I've had a case of histomoniasis (blackhead) in a chicken, I now worm.

After reviewing my post. Cecal worms can be picked up as eggs as well from grazing on ground with lots of bird droppings that are infected with the eggs. So Earthworms for transmission is only one mode.

Dogs and Cats eating off the ground. that's why we worm them.

Looks like a pullet :)! Is she growing good now? BTW all of your babies are looking good! And you have made it clear to me that my Dom is most likely a pullet. :)
