Surviving Minnesota!

Ralphie, as I recall your original PC cock was not a problem bird ? I think temperament is to be highly considered in mating's and can honestly say I have not developed any problem birds here. I do not keep many and perhaps that is part of the reason ?
I personally do not concern myself very much with loss of vigor from inbreeding, but I cull any birds which do not exhibit hardiness as well as physical characteristics which I desire.

When are you going to start hatching?

Ralphie, as to a source other than Mike I would suggest either Bob Rennolet or Shelly Oswald. both are listed in the CFI Breeder's Directory I believe.
I am not hatching any PC this year, as I am switching back to White.

I think the whites are amazing...

Good afternoon all. It's bluebird skies out there. I would rather not be at a desk.

We've had some stomach virus and a couple cold viruses rolling through the troops at home. Mom antibodies still keeping all at bay. I'm amazed by it sometimes as our house is a petri dish.
The thaw usually brings about a festoon of ailments around here. Unfortunately my immunity to such things not passed on to the minions and DH.
DH had 3 fire calls last weekend. The wind was 19mph sustained on Sunday. It blew up some lake ice (not quite ready) building 10 foot walls here at work. But now the other half is just sort of sitting out there going back and forth on the lake as the window blows. Maybe it will just sink. Pretty black looking out there. It appears the water will not be solid for opening. IDK...

Junior still limping around out there. I'm not sure what to do with him. My inclination is to just let him limp away all summer until it heals up. I think everytime he jumps down it just kind of rebreaks any healing IDK... He seems happy and keeps doing his job with the hens. Standing alert, mating, eating drinking. He's a good boy.

Friend down the road posted a picture of 3 fox kits in a den. :th
Thick as thick can be.

I'm thinking this weekend I'll maybe go looking for mushrooms or take a dirt temperature. But boy I think the frost has really headed out in a hurry around here. Sort of amazed after the sort of winter we've had.

Holms you are not suppose to post pics of calico kittens on here. New BC rule. Okay?!
:love
Also that SimAngus bull is amazing and hearing he's a love just makes me like him all the more. I'm used to seeing bulls forcing themselves through metal corral gates.

Day 15 on the school incubator. we have 16 of 24 eggs set viable. Looking forward to cheepers in 6 more days. I'll try to get the Ustream link on here when things are going.

Ed who is the Grandfather or great Grandfather has the sweetest personality. I have him on babysitting duty with my chicks. He is better with them than any hen. Also he is so meek and mellow the others pick on him too much.

I know I have too many roosters, but as soon as I get down to 1 of a breed. it dies and I have real problems.

I have a few white legbars, cocks but they have been sold and will be shipped this month. I have all the Cream legbars sold too along with a couple PC roosters, if I can keep them alive that long.

It is hard to believe this belly buttons are descendants of Ed.

This afternoon, I noticed one of the hens has got some goofy body language. She's keeping her wings untucked, away from her body and her tail is carried low. I haven't seen that before.

Cloudy and cooler today . Planted beans and radish . Did a little grafting . Need to get the fence around the beans or rabbits will get them .

Decent meet today, the girls team was 2nd overall, decent considering we had 5 girls today. The boys got 3rd overall, and one boy qualified in long jump, and another in the 400.
I am hoping to set 1 dozeb eggs tomorrow, hopefully it is a good hatch as it will probably be my last until fall.
