One scared chicken!

Hello, I have a flock of 27 chickens, three of them are easter eggers, the others are RIR.

I have searched for an answer, but came up short.

Two of the three easter eggers seem to be able to handle the RIR aggressiveness. However, it seems to be running one on empty. She runs around the pen very scared of all the others. I understand that there is the pecking order, but she is beyond scared. She appears to be molting too. Now she does not sleep on the roost with the rest of the chickens, she sleeps on top of the nesting boxes by herself.

Any ideas on what to do?

I also have 16 month old chicks, I am not sure if I could put her with them. She does seem to be a bit broody.

The ee might be stressed sonce she molting. But if she being picked on to much i would say remove her for awhile while she recovers then remove the rir and reintroduce the ee and the 16 month old pullet. Then after they are settled in with the rest of the flock with the pecking order reintroduce the rir that way the pecking order has been changed.

It sounds like you have a timid EE. I would remove her from the others and place her with the 16 month old chicks and see how that works. She may be mean to the chicks. If that is the case, she might be better off by herself until the chicks get big enough to get away and/or peck her back if she's mean to them. Good luck!
 
that was a big typo on my part, I meant to say i have (16) chicks that are one month old! Do you still think she could go with them? She seems a little broody, I am wondering if she would adopt them!

She might but she might not. I have six almost three month olds now and they been with the big girls since they turned two months old. They do just fine some are pretty bold and peck the 9 month old hens lol. But if you take the bully out ego the rir for a week or two it could rest the pecking order and help your ee calm down.

She has 24 RIR hens, so removing the RIR is not the answer.

when hens are molting they can become a bit nutty, they are uncomfortable and don't like being touched or rubbed against, many of mine start acting this way as well, they too will sleep in the nestboxes, and run about like everyone is after them, so it should pass after she's done molting, I wouldn't remove her unless she's actually being picked on and blood is being drawn, it doesn't sound like that's the case, so just leave her be.
